How garage door tracks work
Each side of the door has a vertical track beside the opening, a curve, and a horizontal track that runs back under the ceiling. Brackets fix the vertical track to the wall and frame, and hangers hold the horizontal track up. The rollers ride inside, so the door can only go where the tracks lead it.
The two sides have to match. They need the same height, the same curve and the same distance from the door all the way up. When one track is bent, loose or out of line, the rollers bind, and the door rubs, stalls at the same spot or comes off track.
We repair tracks in Coral Gables, Hialeah and the rest of Miami-Dade, and across Broward.
What bends a track out of line
Much of the damage starts low on the vertical track, where a car bumper, a lawn mower or a trash bin catches it. Higher up, brackets work loose over time as the door vibrates, and the track slowly drifts. A door forced while it was off track can also kink the curve.
Storms are hard on tracks too. FEMA's guidance on wall openings says strong wind can force a garage door inward or wrench it out of its tracks, and a door flexing in a gust can bend them. Near the coast, salt air rusts the foot of the track, where rainwater sits.
Signs to look and listen for:
- A scraping or rubbing sound in one spot as the door moves.
- A visible kink, dent or twist in the track, often near the floor.
- A bracket that wobbles, or a bolt that has backed out.
- Rollers sitting too deep or too shallow in one stretch of track.
- A door that shudders, stalls or reverses at the same point each time.

Our track repair, done with the door secured
We clamp the door first so it can't move while a track is loose. Then we check each vertical track for plumb, the horizontal tracks for level, and the gap between the two sides, because the rollers need the same room all the way up.
A small bend can often be straightened with the door down and secured. A track that is kinked, torn or badly twisted is safer to swap for a matching piece. We tighten or refit loose brackets and hangers, swap stripped fasteners, and align the track so every roller turns freely.
We check the rollers and hinges as well, since a bent track often damages them; that work is roller and hinge repair. Then we run the door through its full travel and reset the opener's limits.
Never hammer a track with the door up
It is tempting to tap a bent track straight. With the door open, though, its weight hangs on those rollers, and one hit can knock a roller free and bring the door down. Never hammer or pry a track, and never loosen its brackets, while the door is up.
If a track is bent, give the opener a rest and don't move the door. Keep cars and people well away. If rollers have already come out, the job is off-track door repair, and the same rule applies: don't force the door.

Tracks after a storm or a hard hit
After a storm, look at the tracks before you run the door. A door that flexed in the wind can bend a track or pull its brackets loose, and running it can make the damage worse. Our hurricane prep and storm repairs cover checks before the season and repairs after it.
A track that binds can also stop the door short of the floor or send it back up. If that sounds like your door, see why a garage door won't close.
If the frame around the door is torn loose or the door itself is folded, a track repair won't hold, and we say so plainly.
Then the choice is a new garage door. Both counties sit in the Florida code's High-Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ), so the new door needs an approved product and a building permit, and we help with that paperwork.

How it works
- Secure the doorClamps keep the door from moving while any track or bracket is loose.
- Check plumb, level and spacingWe measure both tracks and find every bend, gap and loose fastener, then explain the repair and its cost.
- Straighten or swap the trackOnce you agree, minor bends are straightened and kinked pieces are swapped for matching track.
- Tighten, align and testBrackets are tightened, the track is aligned, and the door runs a full cycle with the opener.
